Rama Vibhishana …Strategic Partners

In the posting (Refer..) Vibhishana’s action is purported to be Pradhanya Dharma meaning obedience to God, Vibhishana sharanagathi or submission to lord Rama. This has been reviewed in 2 postings ( refer {1} and {2}). So let us visit the Valmiki Ramayana, Yudhakanda and see what happens when Vibhishana left Ravana and subsequent meeting with Rama. In Sarga 14 of yudha kanda Vibhishana repeatedly warns Ravana about Rams’s power. Arrows of Rama resembling thunderbolt. Etc [ 6-14-04]. None like Kumbhakarna or Indrjit can beet him [ 6-14-05] Even gods cannot protect you [ 6-14-06]. Rama is an expert in all matters[ 6-14-12]. Power of arrow articulated[ 6-14-13,14

. Having highlighted Rama’s invincibility Vibhishana goes directly to Rama. He surrenders himself Rama . Rama’s first words are enquires about Ravana’s strength[ 6-19-07]. Vibhishana describes Kumbhakarna[ 6-19-10]; then Prahasta [ 6-19-11]; then Indrjit[ 6-19-12]; then Mahodara and Mahaparsva [ 6-19-14]. Then Ravana himself [ 6-19-16]. Rama assures Vibhishana immediately that he will be made the king after killing Ravana Prahasta and Indrajit [ 6-19-20]. Vibhishana in turn assures full help in killing them [ 6-19-23]. Subsequently during the war Vibhishana plays vital role in diverting Rama and Lakshmana from moaning over maya seetha and joins hand with Lakshmana in fighting Indrajit. Thus the relation between Vibhishana and Rama is strategic partnership; Vibhishana to help Rama in fighting Ravana and Rama to anoint him as king of Lanka. Pradanya dharm and godliness are never mentioned. In Fact this is again as per manusmriti
7.168 अर्थ संपादनार्थ च पीड्यमानस्य शत्रुभीः साधुषु व्यपदेशश् च द्विविधः संश्रयः स्मृतः
7.168. Seeking refuge is declared to be of two kinds, (first) for the purpose of attaining an advantage when one is harassed by enemies, (secondly) in order to become known among the virtuous (as the protege of a powerful king).

Obviously Vibhishana attains advantage from his harassed brother and also became known as virtuous.
